I wanted to let you know that our tutor has been a blessing for our son. He showed him how important it is to get organized and put time into studying for tests.
The tutor taught our son so many important things and made a connection with our son that has made such a difference in his academic life. Our son’s English grade started out as a 51%. After working with the tutor for only three weeks, his English grade was an 82%.
Thank you so very much for finding such a wonderful teacher for my son. I really appreciate all The Learning Lamp has done for us.

February's Success Story: A brighter future for Emily
The 2011-12 school year marks the second time Emily has sat in a third grade classroom. Her grades plummeted during the final marking period of last year. Unable to make adequate progress over the summer, Emily was held back.
Emily’s primary deficiency lies in comprehension. The nine year old from Clearfield County has traditionally struggled to retain information—a problem that impacts virtually every subject. Disappointed at not being able to advance with her class, Emily began the new school year feeling dejected. Then, her mom discovered The Learning Lamp. Today, with newfound resolve and heightened confidence in her abilities, Emily has a new attitude toward school—and learning.
“She is excited to show her tutor what she can do,” explained Holly, Emily’s mother. Emily has been tutoring two days a week at The Learning Lamp since the end of August. Based on income, her family was eligible to pay a reduced rate for tutoring. Contributions to The Learning Lamp fund scholarships that help families in financial need afford the tutoring their children require to achieve success in the classroom.
“It would’ve been tight without the lower rate,” Holly said. “We probably wouldn’t have been able to tutor as often as Emily needs.”
A testament to Emily’s hard work, her report card grades reflected a definite improvement during the first nine weeks of the year. Emily earned an “A” in reading and a “B” in math. Fourth grade, here she comes!
