What do you do when you start work at 8 a.m. and your child's bus doesn't come until 8:45 ? What about after school? Who's watching your kids until you punch out for the day?
For some parents, juggling work schedules and child care to cover those hours before and after school can be a real challenge. That's why The Learning Lamp offers before and after school care that is convenient for moms and dads and lots of fun for kids!
Both of our programs at the Richland Elementary School and Westmont Hilltop Middle School are fully-licensed and staffed by highly-qualified and caring adults. And children don't just pass time while they're here. Our program includes:
• homework help by certified teachers
• fun physical activity sessions with staff trained in the nationally-recognized SPARK (Sports, Play and Active Recreation for Kids) curriculum
• nutritious snacks
• a weekly nutrition lesson
• plenty of arts, crafts and enrichment activities.
The Richland Before and After School Program is open to children in grades K-5. Morning drop-off can be scheduled as early as 6 a.m. After school care begins at the end of the school day, with pick-up no later than 6 p.m. Tuition is $3.25 per hour.
The Westmont Hilltop Middle School After School Program is open to children in grades 5 and 6. After school care starts when the school day ends, with pick-up until 6 p.m. Tuition is $3.50 per hour.
Parents may enroll students in either program for as many days as needed. And subsidized care is available for families who qualify. Snow day, holiday and summer school-age care is available at The Learning Lamp's primary learning center at 108 College Park Plaza.

The SAT is a major factor in the college application process. Preparing for it helps students approach the test with confidence and better test-taking skills. The Learning Lamp offers affordable prep classes and individual tutoring that will sharpen a student's test-taking skills by reviewing techniques, concepts and question types that apply to the SAT exam.
What do students who have completed the course say about the help they received?
"This class helped me be less afraid of taking my SATs and also helped me feel more relaxed about the math section."
"It helped me review over things I learned in the past and I learned things I didn't know."
"I learned how to eliminate answers if you have no idea on the question."
In 2005, the SAT changed its format. The exam's math section eliminated quantitative comparisons and added Algebra II. Other differences included multiple verbal sections: Critical Reading/Writing and Essay. Critical Reading eliminated the analogies section and added sentence completions and long and short reading passages. The new Essay section was comprised of essay writing, improving sentences, improving paragraphs and error identification.
The Learning Lamp SAT Prep Course is taught by experienced, certified teachers and is structured to help students better navigate the newly revamped exam. Our course is divided into three sections: Math, Reading/Writing and Essay. Choose one section or attend all three. Our structured program emphasizes strategies such as analyzing difficult vocabulary, scanning passages for content, applying mathematical logic and reviewing important concepts in higher level math.
