Job Fair to Recruit Substitute Teachers

Posted on September 28, 2015

Saxton, PA (Sept. 28, 2015) – According to a September report from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry, Center for Workforce Information & Analysis, the unemployment rate in Bedford County is 5.9 percent. That translates into 1,500 people out of work and looking for jobs. In 2015, Education, Training & Library occupations employed the most people countywide, second only to Healthcare Practitioners and Technical Occupations.

“The field of education is broader than the average person may think. At The Learning Lamp, we are currently seeking to fill more than 50 education-related positions for the 2015-16 school year,” explained Jona Duppstadt, Director of Education Programs at The Learning Lamp. “What people don’t realize is if you hold a bachelor’s degree and enjoy working with children, you can become emergency certified to be a substitute teacher and work as much or as little as you’d like in schools throughout our area.”

The Learning Lamp is seeking certified teachers, retired teachers and professionals with four-year college degrees to serve as substitute teachers in the Tussey Mountain School District. Come dressed for success and be interviewed on the spot at a job fair Monday, October 12, 2015 at the Saxton Community Library located at 315 Front St., Saxton, PA from 2 to 4 p.m.

The Learning Lamp’s Substitute Teacher Program helps school districts recruit, place and manage substitute teachers on a daily basis—eliminating the administrative headache for schools and providing new and seasoned educators and professionals with meaningful work in today’s classrooms.
Reliable, quality substitute teachers are in high demand—and short supply. In fact, substitute teachers man 10 percent of all classrooms in public schools each day. By the time a student graduates, one full year of his or her instruction will have been provided by substitute teachers!

The Learning Lamp offers competitive pay rates, part-time and full-time options, health care and a retirement savings plan, plus opportunities to further your career with tuition assistance and professional development. All positions require updated clearances.
