Kids’ Day Out Programs Offers Flexible Child Care on Snow Days, Holidays

Posted on November 24, 2014

Johnstown, PA (Nov. 24, 2014) – Parents can breathe a sigh of relief on snow days and holidays with The Learning Lamp’s Kids’ Day Out (KDO) program. It offers child care on days when school is not in session, but parents still have to work. With locations in Richland, Westmont, Boswell, Sidman and Ebensburg, there’s no reason to panic over a school cancellation.

Each KDO day offers activities centered on a unique theme. Students from kindergarten to sixth grade spend the day engaged in fun and extraordinary learning experiences (i.e. Giant Floor Map of PA and Imagination Playground), arts and crafts and field trips, for some locations.

“We don’t want to take the fun of a snow day or holiday away from the kids,” said Brittany Darr, director of school-age programs at The Learning Lamp. “That’s why we take time to plan activities so each KDO day is special and memorable.”

KDO is available at five sites: the Greater Johnstown Career and Technology Center in Richland, The Little Learning Lamp in Westmont, The Learning Lamp Center for Children in Jennerstown, Forest Hills Elementary in Sidman and Cambria Elementary School in Ebensburg. Children do not have to attend these schools or programs to take part in Kids’ Day Out. Hours at our Richland, Westmont and Ebensburg sites are 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For Jennerstown and Forest Hills, the program runs from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Forest Hills Elementary site has limited Kids’ Day Out dates, but families are encouraged to enroll at other KDO locations. A minimum of five children must enroll for the program to take place.

Parents interested in signing up their children for Kids’ Day Out should contact Brittany Darr at 814-262-0732. For more information on The Learning Lamp’s other programs, visit thelearninglamp.org.
