Child Care,
Toddlers &
Preschoolers
The Little Learning Lamp Preschool, which is available at five locations in Cambria, Somerset and Bedford Counties, offers a research-based curriculum that prepares children for the demands of kindergarten by helping them develop early literacy skills.
The program's curriculum, Building Language for Literacy, is considered among the best preschool programs available. Its use of high-quality literature, songs and poems, rich vocabulary and language-loving characters equips young students with the critical language and literacy skills they need to build the foundation for success in reading.
Our certified teachers tailor instruction to the needs of each child. Targeted skills include oral language, phonological awareness, letter knowledge and concepts of print. The program also provides excellent opportunities for social development while exposing students to math and science concepts, foreign language and music appreciation.
In addition to our three programs in Cambria County (two in Richland Township and one in Westmont), we have locations at Rockwood Elementary School in Rockwood, Somerset County, and a branch at Hyndman-Londonderry Elementary School in Hyndman, Bedford County.
The Little Learning Lamp Preschool is open to children ages 3 and 4. Our Westmont and GJCTC sites also offer a separate socialization program for 2s and young 3s who miss the traditional cutoff for preschool but are ready for a more structured learning environment.

Now at two locations in Richland Township!
Leaving a child to go to work shouldn't leave a parent riddled with guilt. The Learning Lamp Center for Children, now with two locations -- our flagship center on Scalp Avenue and a second site at the Greater Johnstown Career & Technology Center (GJCTC) -- was designed by working moms to meet the needs of today's busy families.
The family-friendly centers offer flexible hours for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years. Our highly qualified staff enjoy working with children and will offer your child the love and attention he or she needs to make the transition from home to childcare.
The Learning Lamp Center for Children at Scalp Avenue and GJCTC will not only help your child grow socially and emotionally, but also academically. Both of our centrally-located sites include a literacy-based preschool for children ages 3 and 4 at no additional cost, plus before and after school care and a summer school-age program that incorporates exciting educational and enrichment activities.
The Learning Lamp Center for Children is built to standards set forth by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and Pennsylvania's Keystone STARS initiative. Each center is open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
