Annual Children’s Book Festival Boasts Big Talent For Panel Discussion For Aspiring Authors, Illustrators

Posted on March 23, 2017

Johnstown, PA (March 23, 2016) – It was in Havertown, Pennsylvania where Victoria Jamieson wrote and illustrated her first book in the third grade. SUPER COW! was a smash hit both with critics (her teacher) and fans (her parents). On Saturday, April 1, 2017, she will share details of her journey to becoming a New York Times bestselling author and Newbery Honor Award winner with aspiring authors, illustrators and fans of children’s literature at The Learning Lamp’s 9th Annual Children’s Book Festival of Johnstown.

The Saturday Night Author Talkis designed to provide aspiring children’s authors and illustrators with insight into how to successfully navigate the highly competitive children’s publishing industry. In addition to Jamieson, the panel includes 2017 PA One Book Author/Illustrator Micha Archer, 2017 Golden Kite winner for picture book illustration Stacy Innerst, and Barbara Grzelso, Art Director for Boyds Mill Press, Calkin’s Creek and Wordsong.

“The Children’s Book Festival has become a great opportunity for parents and teachers to get children excited about reading by introducing them to the authors and illustrators who bring stories to life,” explained Ingrid Kloss, director of development at The Learning Lamp. “The festival also serves as a resource for local people interested in creating children’s books of their own. The Saturday Night Author Talk provides a supportive environment for new authors and illustrators to ask questions and gain insider insight that may help them get their foot in the door.”

The Saturday Night Author Talk will be held at BOTTLE WORKS in Johnstown’s historic Cambria City neighborhood. Doors open at 5:15 p.m. Tickets are $25 and include heavy hors d’oeuvres followed by the program from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be time for questions/answers and book signings after the formal presentations. Proceeds from the Author Talk help offset costs of the festival, which is free to the public.
