Children’s Book Festival of Johnstown Takes Bookmark Contest Online

Posted on June 3, 2020

Johnstown, PA (June 2, 2020) – Every April The Learning Lamp hosts the Children’s Book Festival of Johnstown. The action-packed weekend features notable children’s authors and illustrators and aims to provide children in grades PreK – 6 and their families with a FREE, interactive and engaging literary experience that fosters a love for reading. Although health and safety restrictions related to COVID-19 forced The Learning Lamp to cancel the actual festival in 2020, we are acknowledging the artwork of area children that participated in our annual bookmark design contest with a virtual showing and opportunity to win best design via online voting!

In the months leading up to the festival, The Learning Lamp kicked off the event by calling on local students to create bookmarks that reflected the theme of the event: The ART of the Story. Prior to the festival, 223 children in grades PreK – 6 created and submitted bookmarks illustrating their favorite books. Normally, these bookmarks would hang on the walls at the event for all festival-goers to view and vote for their favorites in four categories based on grade level. With the absence of the festival this year those who submitted bookmarks never had the opportunity to compete for the grand prize in each division – a basket full of books!

The Learning Lamp and the Children’s Book Festival of Johnstown want to acknowledge those students that submitted bookmarks and hold the bookmark contest online at https://thelearninglamp.org/for-families/childrens-book-festival-johnstown-2-2/. Friends, family and community members are invited to go online, view bookmarks and vote for their favorite in each bracket. Each device is limited to four votes. Voting ends Sunday, June 21, 2020 and winners will be announced that week via The Learning Lamp’s and The Children’s Book Festival of Johnstown’s individual Facebook pages.
