Credit Recovery Helps At-risk Students Stay On Track in School

Posted on May 8, 2018

Johnstown, PA (May 7, 2018) – For some students, failed courses and too many missed classes jeopardize their ability to earn a high school diploma. Credit recovery through Ignite Education Solutions provides students flexible and affordable opportunities to catch up, or get ahead – keeping them in school and on track for graduation.  “Ignite Education Solutions offers many options for summer credit recovery, all of which can be tailored to ensure students succeed in recovering the needed credits,” said Emily Theys, director of Ignite Education Solutions. “Parents and students can choose a program that works best for their schedules. Options include guided summer school or online credit recovery. Credit for courses completed transfer to their home district so they start the next school year on pace with their peers.” Certified teachers provide support and instruction and parents are updated in student progress through weekly reports. Parents are encouraged not to wait until a child’s senior year in high school to attempt to regain lost credits. Studies show that a student’s performance in his or her ninth grade year serves as a powerful predictor of whether he or she will graduate from high school. In fact, students with a GPA of 2.0 or lower at the end of their freshman year should be considered at risk for dropping out, according to a US Department of Education study. Credit Recovery options include:

  • Guided Summer School – Students report to class for 15 hours of direct instruction time (on a flexible schedule) at Johnstown and Somerset locations. Outside of class, students work remotely to complete independent work. Class enrollments start June 11, 2018 and students must be registered by noon on July 20, 2018. Classes end August 9, 2018; $198/course.
  • Online Credit Recovery – The most flexible option with a wide range of courses! Enrolled students must have a high-speed internet connection and access to Microsoft Office or Google Docs. Online Credit Recovery is ideal for self-motivated students. To participate in the first session, a student must be registered by noon on June 7, 2018. Classes begin June 11, 2018. The end date for Session 1 is July 20, 2018. The second session begins on July 2, 2018. Students must be registered by noon on June 28, 2018. The end date for Session 2 is August 10, 2018; $160/course.
