Credit Recovery Helps At-Risk Students Stay on Track in School

Posted on May 9, 2017

Johnstown, PA (May 9, 2017) – For some students, failed courses and too many missed classes jeopardize their ability to earn a high school diploma. In fact, more than 1.2 million students drop out of high school each year, according to the U.S. Department of Education. That’s one student every 26 seconds – or 7,000 a day. Credit recovery through Ignite Education Solutions can prevent students from becoming a statistic by keeping them in school and on track for graduation.

“Ignite Education Solutions offers many options for summer credit recovery, all of which can be tailored to ensure students succeed in recovering the needed credits,” said Emily Theys, director of Ignite Education Solutions. “Parents and students can choose a program that works best for their schedules. Options include guided, site-based or online credit recovery. Credit for courses completed transfer to their home district so they start the next school year on pace with their peers.”

Participating students and parents receive regular feedback through weekly progress reports. Ignite Education Solutions also has teachers available for drop-in help should students need extra support in person. Parents are encouraged not to wait until a child’s senior year in high school to attempt to regain lost credits. Studies show that a student’s performance in his or her ninth grade year serves as a powerful predictor of whether he or she will graduate from high school. In fact, students with a GPA of 2.0 or lower at the end of their freshman year should be considered at risk for dropping out, according to a US Department of Education study.

Credit Recovery options include:

  • Guided Credit Recovery – Ignite Education Solutions matches the student with a certified teacher who provides assignments in the required subject area. Students complete the work independently, which takes approximately 50 hours. For more difficult content, 10 hours of teacher instruction is available. • Online Credit Recovery – The most flexible option with a wide range of courses! Enrolled students must have a high-speed internet connection and access to Microsoft Office or Google Docs. Online Credit Recovery is ideal for self-motivated students. To participate in the first session, a student must be registered by noon on June 8, 2017. Classes begin June 12, 2017.
