Educationally-Focused Camps Engage Children All Summer Long

Johnstown, PA (May 3, 2017) – Sunshine and summer time will be here before you know it! With the warm weather comes The Learning Lamp’s summer camps for kids of all ages. This year, The Learning Lamp is offering 12 weeks of camp for school-age and preschool kids, as well as the 10th Annual Performing Arts Academy—which features Disney’s Beauty and The Beast, Jr.

The Learning Lamp’s preschool summer camps for ages 3, 4, and 5 are part-day sessions designed and taught by teachers certified in early childhood education. Parents will find age-appropriate themes like Summer Safari, Space Cadets, Seussville and Everyday Heroes. These camps are available in Richland, Westmont, Somerset and Jennerstown. No matter where your child goes to preschool or kindergarten, The Learning Lamp’s summer camps are a great way to keep him or her engaged in hands-on learning activities all summer long. Tuition is $60 per week, and classes run from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday.

Preschool Summer Camps

Summer Safari – June 5-9

There’s no need for a passport when you can explore the Savanna with us! From giraffes to gorillas, learn how wild animals live, what they eat and more. We’re not lion, it’s going to be a wild time!

Crazy Concoctions – June 12-16

Let’s get messy! Art and science come together as we create colorful bubbles and make slime using products found around our homes.

Rockin’ Rhythm – June 19-23

Who’s ready to rock? Let’s explore all things musical as we sing our favorite songs, make ribbon rings to dance with and play musical chairs.

Holiday Extravaganza – June 26-30

Every day is a holiday during this week-long celebration. Revisit Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas and invent a holiday of your own.

Hurray for the USA! – Program closed July 4, reduced tuition this week only – July 3-7

Learn all about the United States of America as travel from Washington D.C. to Hawaii, and New York to Arizona. We’ll celebrate our independence by making firework handprints, Uncle Sam masks and flags our of pom poms.

Pajama Party – July 10-14

Wear your pajamas and let your imagination run wild as we read our favorite fairytales. This is a pajama party you won’t forget as we make fairy jars, dragons and dress as our favorite story book characters.

Everyday Heroes – July 17-21

From emergency responders to firefighters, meet everyday heroes in our community. Get an up-close look at an emergency response vehicle and make your own police badge.

Fun in the Sun – July 24-28

Get ready for all kinds of fun in the sun! We’ll craft sun visors and paper popsicles, create masterpieces by painting with ice cubes and make lemonade from scratch.

Space Cadets – July 31 – August 4

To infinity and beyond! Join us for an intergalactic adventure. We’ll explore the planets, make telescopes to see the stars and create rockets to blast off into space.

Jurassic Journey – August 7-11

Travel back to the time dinosaurs roamed the earth and become a dinosaur expert. Stomp around like a dinosaur after making dinosaur feet, create fossils from salt dough and learn all about the different dinosaurs, big and small.

Seussville – August 14-18

Oh, the places you’ll go during this fun-filled week of Dr. Seuss! We’ll read our favorite Dr. Seuss classics, make handprint fish and plan rhyming games.

Camp Neverland – August 21-25

“X” makes the spot! We’ll morph into pirates and go on an adventure as we walk the plank, make spy glasses from recycled materials and design pirate hats.

For students entering grades 1 to 5, school-age summer camps feature fun ways to engage with hands-on-learning. Camp themes include Messy Masterpieces, Flag-tastic, Mad Scientist and Game Show Mania. School-age camps fill quickly. Camp locations include Richland, Westmont, Ebensburg, Conemaugh Township-Davidsville, Somerset and Jennerstown. Tuition varies depending on location, and classes run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Keystone Kids – June 5-9

Learn about all things Keystone from underground coal mines to Johnstown’s very own Inclined Plane and everything in between!

Messy Masterpieces – June 12-16

Let your creativity run wild as we make art with a range of objects including marbles, flowers, salt and much more. The possibilities are endless to create that one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

Rock On – June 19-23

Explore all things musical through sound experiments, movin’ to the groove, and making and playing musical instruments.

Holiday Hoopla – June 26-30

It’s all of your favorite holidays in ONE week! We’ll celebrate Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and more. We’ll dress the part and even create our own holidays.

Flag-tastic – Program closed July 4  – July 3-7

Bring on the red, white and blue as we celebrate the 4th of July. We’ll make star spangled slime, flags out of egg cartons and fireworks from milk and food coloring.

Mad Scientist – July 10-14

Button up your lab coats as we experiment with STEM activities that include making plastic with milk and vinegar, growing flowers in the dark, and turning our names into crystals.

Life Savers – July 17-21

From soldiers to police officers, meet real lifesavers from our community. Get an up-close look at an emergency response vehicle and learn how to stay safe.

Summer Splash – July 24-28

Bring a swimsuit and beach towel and splash into summer! We’ll toss water balloons, compete in a water cup derby and see who can transfer water the fastest using only a sponge.

Space is the Place – July 31 – August 4

3…2…1…BLAST OFF! Spend a week exploring out-of-this-world activities, including making galaxy dough, space shuttles from cardboard tubes and moon rocks.

Game Show Mania – August 7-11

Step on set of your favorite television game show! We’ll explore game shows – past and present, team up to create our own shows, and compete to see who is the ultimate champion!

We are the Champions! – August 14-18

Experience the excitement of some of the world’s biggest sporting events as we attend the World Cup, Super Bowl, World Series, Stanley Cup and March Madness. We’ll learn about their history, play a variety of sports and make trophies.

Going Green – August 21-25

Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. We’ll make recycling and taking care of our environment fun! Make paper, perform water experiments and go bowling using recycled materials.

For 6th through 12th grade students who love to put on a show, The Learning Lamp is offering its 10th Annual Performing Arts Academy June 12-23, 2017. The two-week program takes place at Richland Performing Arts Center, where students will learn the ins and outs of theater production as they audition, rehearse, build sets and finally perform for an audience. This year, the featured production is Disney’s Beauty and The Beast, Jr. Tuition is $270 and includes acting, vocal and choreography classes, show rehearsals, scripts and costumes, a t-shirt and two tickets to the show.
