Free Preschool Available at Everett Elementary for 2017-18 School Year

Posted on May 2, 2017

Everett, PA (May 2, 2017) – Quality preschool programs are proven to better prepare children for entry into kindergarten, and some studies show the benefits last as long as 25 years! The Learning Lamp, a nonprofit organization that works together with schools and families to offer free preschool for income-eligible children at Everett Area Elementary School through the Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts early childhood education program.

Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts is a state-funded initiative that enables private nursery schools, such as The Learning Lamp, as well as school districts, Head Start providers and child care centers to deliver high-quality preschool to economically disadvantaged children. Children must be four years old by September 1, 2017 and from families whose income is at or below 300 percent of the federal poverty level (family of four with annual income of $73,800 or less).

“All children deserve the opportunity to learn so that they may grow up to become successful in school and in life,” said Erica Ponczek, Early Learning Director at The Learning Lamp. “Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts provides a solid foundation to help children realize their full potential for a brighter future.”

All Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts classrooms are required to have qualified teachers with the education and expertise to teach young children, small class sizes, a curriculum aligned with the Pennsylvania Early Learning standards, regular assessments of children’s progress and program performance reports.

There are a limited number of slots available for Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts in Everett Area Elementary. The Learning Lamp’s open house and registration event is Tuesday, May 9, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Everett Area Elementary School.  Parents interested in registering their child should bring their child’s birth certificate, updated immunization records, proof of recent physical and dental exams and their previous year’s tax return information. Registration does not guarantee placement as selection is based on criteria set forth by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
