Giant Map of Asia Provides Trip of a Lifetime

Posted on October 21, 2015

Johnstown, PA (Oct. 21, 2015) – Students will brave the Arctic tundra, walk the Gobi Desert and visit the highest and lowest places on Earth in a feet-first exploration of the vast continent of Asia. Through its partnership with National Geographic, The Learning Lamp will bring the Giant Map of Asia to schools in Bedford, Cambria and Somerset Counties Oct. 23 through Nov. 5, 2015.

Asia3_not local“The continent of Asia provides many opportunities to learn about diverse cultures and economies,” said Amanda Peretin, lead instructor of The Learning Lamp To Go program. “This giant learning tool helps us magnify the many important facets of geography so that students can truly grasp what we’re teaching.”

Led by an instructor from The Learning Lamp, students will explore the fascinating diversity of human cultures found in Asia’s 47 countries. From ancient farming villages in India to the futuristic cityscape of Tokyo, there is much to examine on this giant map. While younger students learn map-reading skills and the basic cultural makeup of the continent, older students delve deeper into Asia’s rich culture, learning about its history and geography through fun, feet- and hands-on activities. This multidisciplinary curriculum has something for students of any age group, although it is most appropriate for grades K-8.

The Learning Lamp requests a $200 travel stipend to reserve the map. A limited number of reservations will be accepted. Schools interested in scheduling a tour should call Amanda at 814.262.0732 x246 today.
