Local Nonprofits Collect Donations to Support Arts, Education for Area Youth

Posted on August 1, 2018

Johnstown, PA (August 1, 2018) – Looking for an excuse to clean out your closet and free up space in your jewelry box? The Learning Lamp and Bottle Works are teaming up to collect donations of gently loved jewelry, handbags and accessories to be sold at an upcoming fundraising event. The Sip and Shop event will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at BOTTLE WORKS where all donations will be sold with proceeds supporting The Learning Lamp’s preschool tuition assistance program and BOTTLE WORKS’ lifelong learning initiative. Attendees can also shop a variety of vendors and will be treated to light hors d’ oeuvres. B&L Wine Cellars will also be there to offer wine for purchase.

“This is a great opportunity to repurpose those gently loved items—the purse you had to have last year, the necklace that matched that special outfit, and other accessories that you no longer use, all the while supporting arts and education for youth in our community,” said Kerri Belardi, director of communications at The Learning Lamp.

Both organizations focus on educating children, whether artistically or academically, to enrich their lives. The Learning Lamp’s tuition assistance program provides financial help to income-eligible families that cannot afford a quality early learning experience for their preschooler on their own. BOTTLE WORKS’ lifelong learning initiative provides arts education opportunities for all community members from preschool through adulthood. The program also includes professional enrichment opportunities for growing artists.

“We are excited to collaborate on this fundraising project with our friends at The Learning Lamp. Both organizations have a common goal of supporting local youth and helping students to succeed. It only makes sense to share resources that will allow us to strengthen services and ultimately reach more children,” said Laura Argenbright, executive director of BOTTLE WORKS.

Donations are being accepted now through September 12, 2018 at The Learning Lamp at 2025 Bedford Street in Johnstown and Bottle Works at 411 3rd Avenue in Johnstown. “We encourage everyone to participate in this fun Sip and Shop event by doing a swap,” added Argenbright. “Turn in your tired pieces in advance, then come to the event and replace them with exciting new-to-you accessories that will liven up your wardrobe for fall. It’s a win-win all the way around!”
