Shared Services Alliance Resumes Monthly Continuing Education Courses with Expanded Virtual Workshops

Posted on October 21, 2020

Johnstown, PA (October 15, 2020) – Great child care centers go above and beyond to ensure they are providing the families they serve with quality care, but they can only do so by building and maintaining a strong staff. As the child care industry attempts to rebound from closings and reduced operating capacity associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, The Learning Lamp and its Early Childhood Education Shared Services Alliance have partnered with the Pennsylvania Association for the Education of Young Children (PennAEYC) to resume a year-long series of monthly continuing education workshops with new virtual options.

Originally offered as in-person workshops for Shared Services members only, the remaining November and December trainings are open to anyone in the early childhood education field from across the region. The Zoom workshops will be held on the third Thursday of each month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Pennsylvania Quality Assurance System (PQAS) hours are available for each course completed. Registration is $10 per course.

Workshops will be taught by PQAS-certified trainer and PennAEYC Director of Membership and Educational Services Rose Snyder. Snyder brings over 35 years of early care and education leadership experience to each class. Remaining courses include:

  • Communication: The Heart of a Strong Relationship – Communication is key to building strong relationships in both children and adults. We’ll discuss the access and importance of professional communication related to children, families, and co-workers. Offered Thursday, November 19, 2020 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
  • Observing and Evaluating Staff to Support Individual and Program Improvement – This course encourages early childhood education directors to transform challenge to triumph when it comes to observation in the classroom. Using a strengths-based approach to observation becomes a way to showcase skills, improve programs, and improve teaching! Offered Thursday, December 17, 2020 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Registration is underway. Early childhood education staff interested in signing up for continuing education courses should contact Amanda at 814-262-0732 extension 248. For more information on The Learning Lamp, visit thelearninglamp.org.
